Business Development Manager at Maternity Foundation

Maternity Foundation is seeking a dedicated Business Development Manager to join our Business Development team and support our global fundraising and reporting activities within a rapidly expanding portfolio of work.  

About Maternity Foundation 

Maternity Foundation is an international non-profit organization that works to ensure safer childbirths for women and newborns everywhere through innovative programs and digital solutions. We are a global player within digital training and learning for healthcare professionals. Our digital solution, the Safe Delivery App, is implemented across multiple countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia and has reached more than 400,000 healthcare professionals including those in some of the world’s more remote and fragile settings. 

Our work is supported by a mix of corporate partners, foundations, bilateral and multilateral donors. Together, we work from a shared vision that it should never cost life to give life. 

Position Summary: 

We are a team of roughly 40 colleagues working across our three global hubs in Ethiopia, Denmark, and India. We come from various backgrounds – global health, midwifery, anthropology, IT, and business – and take pride in an entrepreneurial spirit and a can-do attitude.  Together, we are an ambitious and purpose-driven team working in a welcoming and informal atmosphere. 

We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join our Business Development team and support our expanding portfolio of work, working in close collaboration with colleagues from the Programme, Clinical, MEARL, Communications, and IT teams. 

Reporting to the Head of Business Development, the Business Development Manager will support our global fundraising and reporting activities, incl. mapping and analysing funding opportunities, developing project proposals, writing and submitting timely status reports to donors, managing budgets and financial planning. He/She will engage and cultivate new relationships with potential partners and manage existing partnerships at all levels. He/She will also help to develop and implement strategic processes and initiatives and support our overall fundraising activities and strategy.  

The ideal candidate will have a background in NGO/non-profit work, UN organizations, humanitarian/development work, social enterprise, global health and/or business. Experience in management consultancy/business development, project management, proposal and report writing, and budgeting and financial management would be an advantage. 

Responsibilities of the Business Development Manager include: 

  • Support the continuous development and implementation of our organisational and fundraising strategies 
  • Identify funding opportunities across various donor sources incl. open calls, global and Danish foundations, institutional giving, corporate partners, and high-net-worth individuals 
  • Manage project proposals and grant applications, including impact estimates and budget development/financial management 
  • Lead and manage existing partnerships with funders, incl. the cultivation of relationships.  
  • Regular communication, meeting management and administration, and timely status reporting 
  • Support the CEO and Management Team in other processes and tasks, such as Board presentations and external events and engagements 
  • Other ad hoc business development tasks on an as-needed basis such as supporting event planning and coordination, recruitment, management of interns/student assistants, etc. 

Profile:  

We are looking for an energetic, proactive, and structured individual with a strong strategic and analytical toolbox, excellent writing skills and financial understanding as well as excellent stakeholder management skills.  

We envision you are/have: 

  • Relevant academic background, e.g. global health, business etc.  
  • A strong strategic toolbox, including a strong analytical mindset, project management skills, financial forecasting and presentation skills 
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience, preferably from an international NGO, UN agency, social enterprise, or similar 
  • Experience in fundraising, project management, proposal/report writing, donor/partner management, financial analysis and budgeting, and donor mapping/cultivation 
  • Fluency in English with excellent writing skills (fluency in Danish is an asset) 
  • A proactive and driven team player, who is well-structured, and takes responsibility for your working tasks 

Must Requirements:  

Authorisation to work legally in Denmark (work visa sponsorship unavailable).
