Press release: New Danish cross-sector coalition strengthens care for women with birth injuries worldwide
Copenhagen, 5 November 2025 – A new Danish initiative unites civil society, private companies, and private investors in accelerating improved healthcare for mothers in fragile areas worldwide. The NGO Maternity Foundation, the private company GynZone, the investor community platform Angella Invest, and the healthcare startup Oasicare, have collectively raised ~1 million DKK to develop and roll-out a digital training module on suturing to support midwives in providing quality care for women with birth injuries.
The module will be integrated into Maternity Foundation’s free, offline-capable tool, the Safe Delivery App, designed to support midwives in vulnerable areas. To date, the Safe Delivery App and its accompanying training programme have reached 500,000 midwives and other healthcare professionals globally. With the addition of another key focus area — suturing — the app continues to broaden its scope to support safer births for women worldwide, now offering essential suturing guidance directly in the hands of midwives.
“At a time of declining global aid and growing crises, this initiative shows how innovation, technology, and cross-sector collaboration can drive real progress for vulnerable new mothers. We’re proud to expand our Safe Delivery App’s focus to include suturing, supporting midwives in caring for women with birth injuries worldwide”,” says Anna Frellsen, CEO of Maternity Foundation.
As millions of women each year endure preventable birth injuries, the call for better, more skilled suturing care is clear: “Birth injuries can have devastating long-term impacts – from chronic pain and infections to social stigma and psychological trauma,” says Sara Kindberg Adelskov, CEO and Founder of GynZone. “With our deep expertise in suturing, we are proud to contribute to the new digital training module within the Safe Delivery App that can equip midwives to prevent and better manage these very common injuries, ultimately boosting the health, dignity, and futures of women globally.”
The development of the suturing module will be co-led by Maternity Foundation and GynZone, with the support from investor members of Angella Invest and through funding from Oasicare.
“I’m proud that Angella Invest has facilitated the investment through our investor members. Not only do they bring capital but also strong professional competences to this area which is a key strategic priority to Angella Invest; advancing investments in women’s health,” says Kristine Leerbeck, CEO and Founder Angella Invest.
The development of the new module will begin in November 2025, with a launch planned for the second half of 2026. It will be made available through the global English version of the Safe Delivery App, with the potential for expansion into additional language versions in the future.
